The breast is a gland. Therefore, occasional nipple discharge may occur. While usually not significant, it can be a sign of cancer in rare cases. Therefore, such conditions should be evaluated by a specialist.

A milky or green discharge from both breasts can be observed in normal situations when massaged or squeezed. The likelihood of nipple discharge increases with age. Nipple discharge is more common in women who have given birth.

In cystic breasts, squeezing can also cause a gray-green discharge from multiple ducts. Milky or green discharge from multiple ducts in both breasts or in one breast is considered benign. In these cases, if the doctor detects normal findings during the examination, an ultrasound is usually performed, depending on the patient's age (under 35-40). If the results are normal, the patient is followed up. The patient is advised not to squeeze the nipple.

Spontaneous bloody or clear discharge from one breast or one duct indicates nipple discharge that requires further investigation. Consult a doctor for this type of nipple discharge. If a patient presents with this complaint and is over 35, a mammogram will be performed in addition to an ultrasound. Based on the examination findings, the physician may also consider imaging tests such as mammography and ultrasound. If deemed necessary, additional imaging methods such as magnetic resonance imaging and ductography are utilized. Intraductal papilloma, a benign lesion that increases the risk of breast cancer, is detected in two-thirds of cases of this type of nipple discharge, followed by cancer in 9-20% of cases.
